Oceanside Community Information

Recreation & Activities
Because it resides in the mostly sunny southern California coast, Oceanside has plenty of opportunities for its residents to enjoy the warm outdoors. In total, Oceanside has 50+ parks to be enjoyed year-round. These parks range from small neighborhood parks with play structures and picnic areas to large areas with multipurpose fields, tennis courts, baseball fields, and basketball courts. Oceanside also has six golf courses to be enjoyed by the locals. So if a day at the park is not leisurely enough, the golf courses are a great alternative. But for those who enjoy all things nature and love a little challenge, trails are open for hikers, bikers, and nature walkers. There are three major trails for trail-blazers to choose from, depending on preferred means of transportation on the trail and favored scenery.
For those who love skateboarding, Oceanside has approximately five skate parks. Skating has been part of Oceanside culture for many years and the Parks & Recreation Division has made it a point to provide safe and interesting skate parks for local residents. Oceanside residents also have access to two swim centers, which are open to the public but also available for private rentals.
All of these awesome recreational opportunities do not even include the pacific coast and ocean that is essentially the reason for Oceanside?s name. The Oceanside Pier is a place where surfers congregate to catch the waves. There are plenty of ocean and beach activities and events to enjoy year round! Beyond the water, MainStreet Oceanside has many shops and dining areas for shoppers and foodies to discover. There is a weekly farmers market held in this area as well, promoting local artisans and businesses.
